CROW SKULL

Posted: 8/27/10 | POSTED BY ONTHEINTERNET | 0 CMNTS

////CROW SKULL NECKLACE

I typically don't wear jewelry mainly because I always end up loosing them but there was this one piece I've always wanted, this crow skull necklace. Originally I wanted the PAMELA LOVE one but her online shop is down for maintenance and I couldn't find another online store that carried it. So I went on a hunt for a recreation and ended up on Etsy. I've never bought anything from there but I always see people buy things from Etsy with great reviews so I said why not.
This necklace is a cast of a crow skull made from cold marble tied with a leather string. The vendor also has many different variations of this skull from different metals in varying colors to glow in the dark paint. I wanted mine to look like real bones so I went for the marble.
One of the reasons I've always wanted this was because of the movie GINGER SNAPS. And how B and Ginger always wore theirs. Don't judge me.

KIND OF MOVING BUT NOT REALLY

Posted: 8/17/10 | POSTED BY ONTHEINTERNET | 0 CMNTS

I've been working on this blog for a while now (which is why I haven't been updating recently) so most of my time will be spent there. I'll continue to post things here but I think I'm going to take it back to my roots and use this as an inspiration only blog again. Thanks so much for reading and commenting y'all. I think my other project will interest a lot of people since I get so many questions about my DIYs anyway!

GHOST TOWN

////RODARTE FW10
/STYLE.COM

Kate and Laura's newest collection referenced the "dreamlike landscape" of Juarez Mexico, saying they were inspired from a road trip they took to El Paso Texas and were heavily influenced by the maquiladora workers in Juarez. Makeup artist James Kaliardos also threw in words like "sleepwalkers" and "spirits" when describing the collection. But did anyone throw in words like "murder" "rape" or "death"? Doubt it.
Actually have been in Juarez myself, I can tell you there is no dreamlike quality about its landscape. The impoverish factory town next to the boarder was anything but dreamlike when I went to visit. Family there told me not to dress like you had money otherwise you'd be at risk to get abducted, robbed, and killed. Much like the fate of the maquiladora workers living there.
Juarez is the worlds most dangerous city excluding war zones and many women have to get up in the middle of the night to work at the factories. This was Rodarte's inspiration. Mixed matched pieces being layered on top of each other giving a "dressed in the dark" aspect to the look, ghostly pale skin, candles being lit at the beginning of the show, and the collection glowing in the dark to represent spirits of the dead workers were praised by many, but left a bad taste in other people's mouths.

I would have understood if they have just said their inspiration was sleepwalking spirits but instead they made up this dramatic and quite controversial description of their inspiration. How could you glorify the horrible lives some women have to endure everyday then produce $4,000 dresses as a result of it? Rodarte has pulled inspiration from the most obscure places (Japanese horror films and "luxxe woman dying in death valley and being reborn as a condor") "But there's a huge difference between aestheticizing fictional violence and aestheticizing real violence." says JEZEBEL.COM And they're completely right.
I'm not saying I'm appalled, as a person with Mexican heritage I'm not even offended. I just think they could have chose to leave the factory working women dying theme out of their description. A little tasteless Rodarte, just a little.
Rodarte even has a COLLABORATION WITH MAC coming out September 15, 2010, naming their products with things like "quincenera, factory, badtown, and juarez". Although, Kate and Laura did say some of the proceeds from their collaboration with MAC will be given to help the people from Juarez:

"We understand that product names in the M·A·C Rodarte collection have offended some of our consumers and fans. This was never our intent and we are very sorry. We are listening carefully to the comments posted and are grateful to those of you who have brought your concerns to the forefront of our attention. M·A·C will give a portion of the proceeds from the M·A·C Rodarte collection to help those in need in Juarez. We are diligently investigating the best way to do this. Please be assured that we will keep you posted on the details regarding our efforts. " Says a MAC representative.

Shining light on the actual collection though, I thought it was repetitive with the knits but I did enjoy it. I was actually impressed by the pieces glowing in the dark. I wasn't impressed by the very 2006 looking ugly pointy pump though.

Do you think their efforts in creating a faboosh collection this year was tacky and controversial? Or do you not care about my peoples* and loved it?

*not actually from Juarez y'all.

REST IN PEACE?

As if. I've abandoned this blog for far too long! My apologies y'all.
No, I haven't been on an amazing ten year vacation, or started some life changing event, I've just been uninspired (as always it seems). Plus it's the summer now so my wardrobe has been reduced to a shirtdress, a pair of shorts, and some boots, and that's really groundbreaking to blog about, I know. But a good thing about it being summer is time. So back to blogging I go!

WEDGE HUNT

Posted: 4/19/10 | POSTED BY ONTHEINTERNET | 4 CMNTS

Ugh just fucking ugh. For the past month I've been on a lookout for any leather wedge boot that can come my way. I sure have the best of luck because sadly, I can't find any.
A friend of mine e-mailed me instantly when he saw these wedge booties from ALDO, but of course they only carried them in a 35. Okay I wear a men's 11.5, so I have such a hard time finding anything remotely attractive when it comes to footwear. And let me assure you, I don't wear sneakers. Apparently no one shows any of us big girls some love in the shoe department. I'm about ready to just make my own ala luxirare.
These are on my radar. Regardless of size, I will own one of them.

AMY WINEHOUSE x FRED PERRY

////AMY WINEHOUSE X FRED PERRY
/WWD.COM/80sPURPLE.COM

Amy Winehouse has teamed up with Fred Perry to debut a 17-piece collection in stores October 2010. Some say she fell off the map, but she's clearly hard at work. Hopefully this doesn't stumble into into Lindsay Lohan territory and become a huge failure. Which I doubt because her cheeky wink to Fred Perry's original designs already have me hooked. With the color scheme being mostly pink and black she's also pretty adamant over the proportions and fit. And since Amy has always been a loyal supporter of the brand, I'm sure whatever she'll create will still be true Fred Perry but with that wine-o appeal. Make that money boo boo.

MAC'S LIBERTY OF LONDON EVENT

////FAGUTZ AND I AT THE MAC EVENT LAST NIGHT.
/blushes not part of the collection, sadly.

Okay, last night went pretty well for the most part. Thankfully I already knew the girls working there so I didn't have to wait too long but the entire event was kind of lackluster. The "live music" was this really creepy man playing an acoustic guitar around the already cramp store. He would have been nice if he didn't sing to me while I was putting shit on my face. And I obviously couldn't drink so that was a downside in itself but anyway, lets get to the collection.

McQUEEN DIES

Posted: 2/11/10 | POSTED BY ONTHEINTERNET | TAGS- 0 CMNTS

Tragic news, (Lee) Alexander McQueen was found dead at 40 this morning at his home in central London. Though it is still under investigation, it is pretty clear that his death was ruled as a suicide. Found hanged in his London property, only after days of his mother's death, the police are not going to treat his death suspiciously.
Unfortunate news and only a month before his showcase at PFW. He will be truly missed.
Rest in peace Lee.

FOREVER SATANIC

F21 is blowing my mind. I relentlessly made my way over there knowing that this store loves to ruin potentially good pieces with tacky unnecessary shit like bedazzled decals or cropping everything in sight. So It didn't take long before I was walking right back out. But then these caught my eye. They were laying on a messy table under owl necklaces, bamboo bracelets and other...well crap, so I inspected these rings for a deal breaker (as most of F21's pieces have) and to my surprise they were just plain two fingered rings with crosses on them. No sparkles or hearts and flowers etched into the metal. I was hesitant to get them at first because they didn't look that great sitting next to plastic costume rings and white plastic pearls but then I remembered that WILLIAM from the ever so inspiring BLACK LIST made a POST about these rings not too long ago. They looked good on him so I gave it a shot. Thank you William for jogging my memory in times of doubt. ;)
The only downside to these rings, for me at least, is that they are obviously made for dainty fingers. I'm a big bitch, so It took me half of my life to take them off.
